This is exactly what Prosper.com will allow you to be. Or if you feel like it, you can be on the other end of that equation.
However, the concept of micro lending/borrowing with a social, peer-to-peer aspect built in, is appealing. Imagine if you needed a quick loan, and didn’t want to deal with high interest credit cards or the bureaucratic bank system. Then you might turn to the pay day loan outfits, but with Prosper you don’t need to suffer the consequences.
In the end… you may still feel like a money pimp lending to the savages.
